A post-war BMW, the 1954 Rennsport 54 sidecar racing outfit, fetched a price of $167,800 after spirited international bidding, eventually being acquired by a private American collector synonymous with the marque. There was also a BMW R 51 Twin Cam racing machine from circa 1938 which had its engine fully rebuilt in 2003 by Chris Hodgson of San Jose BMW. As well as the rare competition BMWs, there were some great opportunities for collectors and enthusiasts to acquire classic machines at a more achievable price, such as a 1956 R 25/3 from the Allan B. Aaron collection that had been fitted with a pair of sprung saddles and used to tour all over Europe.
